Under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, Child Card Assistant Teacher will be responsible for supporting the Lead teacher with planning, development and implementation of all classroom activities including theHighscopeCurriculum. The Child Care Assistant Teacher is responsible for ensuring the children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental development through quality programming. Additionally, the Child Care Assistant Teacher will provide service, and support to families.
1.Plan, and implement the program in accordance with YMCA standards, branch goals, and Michigan law
2.Support planning and implement a consistent child centered program in accordance to the HighScope curriculum and YMCA standards
3.Demonstrates a commitment to the children’s learning and a responsive approach to ongoing professional development and growth
4.Actively participates in all program components including; swim, gym and outdoor play
5.Monitors the safety and supervision of children at all times and implements emergency procedures as necessary
6.Supervises all volunteers and/or students assigned to work in the classroom
7.Models appropriate behavior to staff, volunteers and participants aligned with the YMCA Mission, Vision and Values. Establishes rapport and builds professional relationships with all participants. Represents the YMCA in a professional manner
8.Understands and demonstrates sensitivity to diversity within community
9.Monitors the quality, appearance, maintenance and storage of all supplies and equipment needed for the program
10.Understands each child and their family’s specific needs. Effectively communicates with families through daily conversations and journals, documentations, newsletters, and family-Teacher conferences
11.Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism and imparts this knowledge and belief upon staff, volunteers and participants
12.Attends all staff meetings, in service training and professional development programs as directed
13.Participates in YMCA events as directed
14.Assumes all other duties as assigned

1.Minimum 6 months experience working with young children
2.A capacity to work as part of a large team within a multi-service charitable Association
3.Well-developed interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills
4.Working knowledge of computers
5.Documentation of TB test that meets LARA requirements is mandatory before starting work, and thereafter as required by law.
6.National and State Background Clearance including drug screening
7.Completion of MiRegistry within 90 days of employment
